We all have our wounds and unresolved issues, and often we unknowingly drag these into our relationships. That is why Breaking Barriers Wellness & Counseling is here to provide you with top-quality mental health care in North Carolina, to help you put a stop to your self-sabotaging tendencies.
Here are a few things you can do:
- Identify and understand your attachment style.
Most of us come out of our families with a blueprint of how we attach ourselves to others. The more intimate someone is to another person, the greater the likelihood that their attachment style can be challenged, which will often bring out their worst qualities, such as jealousy or anger. A mental health counselor can be of great help during these times. - Identify what triggers you.
Write down what you experience in your relationships – ask yourself: what was happening? What did you feel? What were you afraid of? - Be mindful of how you react to your triggers and adjust from there.
You may try asking your African American therapist about ways on how you can cope with negative feelings. - Lastly, decipher the past from the present.
What happened then might not necessarily happen to you again, now.
